Santa Ana police are attempting to identify a teen-age boy who was unconscious and in critical condition Saturday after he was struck by a car while riding his bicycle.

The boy, who appears to be Latino and about 15 years old, was riding his bike in the 1600 block of McFadden Avenue about 6:45 p.m. Friday when he suddenly veered into the eastbound lane of traffic and was struck. The man driving the car abandoned it and fled, said Police Lt. Jack Nelson.

The boy was thrown about 50 feet on impact, Nelson said. He was taken to Fountain Valley Community Hospital, where he is being treated for a skull fracture.

Police have not yet been able to determine who owns the abandoned car, he said.
