James F. McMullen, the fire chief of Campbell in Santa Clara County, has been appointed the state’s new fire marshal by Gov. George Deukmejian. McMullen, 46, replaces Ronald W. Bogardus, who resigned to return to his post as fire chief of Oxnard. McMullen, the fire chief of Campbell since 1979, was previously division chief in charge of fire prevention for San Bernardino and fire chief and public safety director for Loma Linda. He has also been the chief of the Victorville Fire Protection District and in 1966-71 was a deputy state fire marshal. The appointment requires Senate confirmation.
