Hamilton High School is one of five Los Angeles Unified School District high schools selected to receive $1,000 awards and certificates for showing the greatest improvement in mathematics scores on recent statewide achievement tests.

Bell, Crenshaw, Jordan and Verdugo Hills were the other high schools to be honored at 4:30 this afternoon at the Northrop Teacher Recognition Awards reception at Northrop Corp.'s headquarters, 1840 Century Park East.

The awards recognize improvement in the mathematics portion of the California Assessment Program tests from 1983-84 to 1984-85. Hamilton's scores increased 4.6%.
