Two minor earthquakes rattled San Diego Wednesday, but most residents apparently slept through the pre-dawn temblors, which continued a pattern of seismic activity triggered by three quakes earlier this week, authorities said. The first quake hit at 4:20 a.m. and measured 3.0 on the Richter scale. It was followed 17 minutes later by a second quake that registered 3.1. Both were centered about two miles southeast of downtown San Diego, said Dennis Meredith, a spokesman for the California Institute of Technology in Pasadena. San Diego County sheriff’s deputies said the department received no calls concerning Wednesday’s temblors. On Monday, three earthquakes--one measuring 4.0 and two 3.9--occurred within a 4 1/2-hour span and were felt over a wide area of San Diego County. Seismologists said that, since Monday, they have detected about 30 aftershocks in the San Diego area, all of which measured less than 3.0.
