LONDON —
A Pan American World Airways jetliner carrying 354 passengers and 18 crew from Los Angeles to London was diverted to Scotland today after one of its four engines partially disintegrated, an airline spokesman said.
The Boeing 747 landed safely at Prestwick airport on Scotland’s southwestern coast at 8:40 a.m. Another aircraft was flown in from Hamburg, West Germany, to ferry the passengers on Flight PA120 to their original destination, London’s Heathrow Airport, the spokesman said.
