A report of a hazardous chemical spill sent dozens of persons fleeing from a Century City high-rise, but the culprit turned out to be a nontoxic “stink bomb” dumped in a planter in the building’s lobby, fire officials said. An unidentified 47-year-old man with a history of heart trouble complained of difficulty breathing and was taken to UCLA Medical Center, Fire Department spokesman Jim Wells said. Fifty other people were examined for possible ill effects as a precautionary measure, he said. Dozens of people were evacuated from the first floor of the 26-story building at 10100 W. Santa Monica Blvd. Workers were allowed to return after hazardous materials crews identified and neutralized the strong-smelling chemical.
