A blaze started by the state forestry and U.S. Forest Service to burn brush to reduce the threat of fires got out of control and burned an additional 70 acres besides the 300 acres the forestry service had planned to burn. The fire, near the San Luis Rey River, was started Wednesday morning and was contained by 8 a.m. Thursday, a spokeswoman said.

The fire was in an area of steep terrain and heavy foliage and was fanned by strong winds. Two hundred firefighters battled the blaze, which was expected to be brought under control today.
