SHE’S DRESSED ALL IN WHITE : But Anne White’s Body Stocking Is Called Shocking
The All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club was rocked by a scandal Thursday that set hearts palpitating and pulses racing.
Anne White, late of USC, stepped onto Court 2 in a warmup suit and--gasp--stripped down to an iridescent white body stocking in which she proceeded to play tennis against Pam Shriver.
No one fainted, though some were shocked. But one thing is certain: It will not happen again.
Referee Alan Mills visited the scene to get a closer look at the lithe White, who stands 5-11 and would probably like to hear that she looks marvelous in a body stocking.
He later ruled, “She won’t be allowed to wear it again. She will be given a warning and be reminded of the rules.”
It brought back memories of Gussie Moran and her lace panties in 1948 and Rosie Casals’ frilly dress in 1972. When will it end?
The match won’t end until today. It was stopped at two sets, Shriver winning the first, 6-3, and White the second, 7-6. The match will resume today with White in acceptable tennis wear.
Shan’t we all sleep better for it?
