Agoura Hills Beach Bus Called Hit on 1st Day
Agoura Hills’ bus service to Malibu Beach State Park was barely under way Monday morning when city officials pronounced it a hit after about 24 young people clambered aboard the first bus.
“The first one was full and the second one was close to full. So far the program is doing really well,” said Pat Manning of the city manager’s office.
Buses will make four daily round trips Monday through Saturday through Aug. 31. The fare is 50 cents each way. Manning said surfboards are not allowed on the bus, but smaller foam boards and portable ice chests will be permitted.
The yellow buses, marked “Agoura Hills Beach Bus,” will travel through Malibu Canyon.
Stops are Chumash Park at Medea Valley Drive and Agoura Glen Drive; Liberty Canyon Road at the Ventura Freeway, near a Rapid Transit District stop, and Las Virgenes and Parkmor roads. Pepperdine University will serve as a transfer point for buses to other beaches along Pacific Coast Highway.
The service, for all Agoura Hills residents, is financed by the city’s share of a special half-cent sales tax approved by Los Angeles County voters in 1980.
