Fullerton : Ordinance Would Limit Number of Pets Allowed

Share

An ordinance that would reduce the number of pets Fullerton residents can keep won initial approval from City Council members this week.

Current city codes permit up to three dogs and three cats regardless of the size or type of home.

The new ordinance would allow a total of four cats and dogs, with a maximum of three dogs, in houses on lots smaller than 20,000 square feet. Residents of duplexes, apartments, condominiums and mobile homes would be allowed a total of two dogs and cats.

The new ordinance would not affect current residents who have up to six pets.

City officials will review the proposed ordinance for final approval during their July 16 meeting.

In other action, the council gave final approval to a $62.2-million budget for 1985-86, Assistant City Manager Chris Meyer said. The budget includes acquisition of land next to the Fullerton airport, park improvements and an additional jailer for the city’s Police Department.
