Woman Arrested in $1.2-Million Scheme

A West Covina woman, who allegedly bilked at least 24 people out of $1.2 million in a “get-rich-quick” investment scheme, was arrested Friday while appearing in an Orange County courtroom on a bad check charge, authorities said.

Nghia Sabol, 35, allegedly posed as an investment expert and obtained large sums of money from clients, promising to invest the money for a high rate of return, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Deputy John Broussard said.

Sabol allegedly did not make any investments but would offer clients “profits” actually obtained from other victims, Broussard said in describing the results of a two-year investigation. She allegedly told some of her clients that they had made money but would then talk them into reinvesting it, the deputy said.

The woman was booked for investigation of 24 counts of felony grand theft at the Norwalk Sheriff’s Station, where she was jailed in lieu of $1-million bail, Broussard said.
