The Los Angeles Police Department plans to keep a high profile in the Baldwin Hills neighborhood devasted by fire last week, Acting Police Chief Robert L. Vernon told the Police Commission. Vernon said 29 officers have been assigned to patrol the fire area around the clock. “We intend to remain there for at least another week,” he said in a report to the commission. Vernon added that one person has been arrested on a looting charge after the fire.
