Grabbing the chance to sell its valuable Orange County property and replace it with a larger and less-expensive facility, Executive Industries Inc.--one of the country’s largest builders of luxury motor homes--is moving to the San Bernardino County community of Chino.

The move will give Executive nearly twice the space of its Anaheim facility at a considerably lower price, and it could result in an appreciable saving in labor costs, a company official said.

In addition, Executive sold its several-acre Anaheim facility to a developer who plans to replace the buildings with a high-rise office complex. Executive will move its executive offices and manufacturing plant next month.

“From a financial point of view, it makes a lot of sense,” said Chuck Latham, director of marketing for Executive. “For less money we can get twice the size facility.” He said that the Chino plant will have almost 140,000 square feet, compared with the 80,000 square feet at the complex at 5460 E. La Palma Ave. in the Santa Ana Canyon area of Anaheim. Executive bought that property 15 years ago. Latham said the land is now too expensive to be used for manufacturing.

Employees to Remain

Latham said Executive also hopes to realize labor savings from a more efficiently designed facility. The 400 employees now with the company will remain, and a few workers might be hired at the new location, Latham said.

Executive is a private company that does not report financial data, but Latham said the company had sales last year of between $30 million and $40 million. It bought the property at 14320 Ramona Ave. in Chino about six months ago from Brougham Industries of California Inc., another motor home manufacturer that is moving to a smaller building in that city, Latham said.
