Costa Mesa : Closures for Drain Work to Affect Some Motorists

Share

Motorists in Costa Mesa may have to face some inconveniences during the next few weeks as a result of a $1.3-million project to upgrade the city’s storm drain system.

According to Larry Arruda, an associate civil engineer for the city, Pinecreek Drive between Village and Adams avenues will be closed for most of July to all but local traffic as work proceeds on drains there.

Portions of Adams Avenue between Harbor Boulevard and Fairview Road will be closed for about two weeks beginning Aug. 22, with the street being narrowed to one lane in each direction for the duration of construction.

When the project is completed in mid-November, the upgraded storm system, which empties into the Santa Ana Flood Control Channel, will be able to handle runoff from storms equal to the worst that have hit Costa Mesa in the last 25 years, Arruda said.

Motorists should use alternate routes while the project is under way and exercise caution when passing through construction areas, Arruda said. Passers-by noticing possible safety problems can contact the Costa Mesa Public Services Department between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. at (714) 754-5323. Nighttime callers can contact the city Communications Department at (714) 754-5250.
