The offices of two newspapers and a credit union were destroyed by a $230,000 fire in Ridgecrest. Investigators said an electrical short in the building housing the offices apparently was the cause. Twenty Kern County firefigters fought the flames for 3 1/2 hours, and one of them, Joaquin Gaeta, suffered minor burns. Destroyed were the Ridgecrest Credit Bureau, the Valley Enquirer and the Swap Sheet. Damage to the building was $180,000, and damage to the contents was $50,000 investigators said.
