1985 Insurgency Toll 2,646, Manila Reports
From Reuters
MANILA —
A total of 2,646 people, nearly one-fourth of them civilians, have been killed in the Philippine Communist insurgency so far this year, the army said Wednesday.
Col. Reynaldo San Gabriel said the toll included 1,155 rebels, 714 civilians, 341 soldiers, 274 militiamen, 99 policemen and 63 government officials.
He said the count belied reports that the military has suffered more combat casualties than the rebels of the New People’s Army. The rebels have stepped up their armed campaign in the last few months.
