Broken Ankle Forces Moran to Miss 3 Weeks
Two-time defending U.S. speedway motorcycle champion Kelly Moran of Huntington Beach suffered a broken left ankle last Friday night in the “Coors Western Night” racing event and will be out of action for at least three weeks.
Moran was dueling for position with Robert Pfetzing and Brad Oxley in turn 1 of his opening scratch heat when he lost control of his bike. The front wheel rose on his bike, he flipped over backward and caught his steel boot under the bike.
The 1985 season has been a forgettable one for the popular champion. Three weeks ago, Moran crashed at Carlsbad Speedway and cracked two of his ribs.
