Van Patten, White Pace Strings’ Win
The Los Angeles Strings, led by Vince Van Patten and Anne White, swept the first four sets on the way to a 28-20 victory over the Chicago Fire in a TeamTennis match Friday night.
The only match Los Angeles lost was the mixed doubles, 6-4.
White teamed with Pam Teeguarden to defeat Rosie Casals and Terry Holladay, 6-5, in women’s doubles and then trounced Holladay, 6-1, in women’s singles.
The win gave White a 31-23 singles record and the lead in the league standings going into Tuesday’s All-Star game here.
Van Patten, along with Ross Case (subbing for the injured Larry Stefanki), defeated Ben Testerman and Duke Odizor, 6-5, in men’s doubles. Van Patten then defeated Testerman, 6-3, to bring his singles record to 26-29.
The loss will keep Testerman (29-26), the top-ranked male player in the league, out of the All-Star game.
The Strings (2-4) are tied for sixth with Chicago, three games behind the Oakland Aces.
