Investigators with three Orange County police departments are seeking a man who allegedly has been using bogus cashier’s checks to purchase Mercedes-Benz automobiles from owners advertising in local newspapers.

The man has purchased at least three of the expensive cars since July 9 from sellers in Garden Grove, Irvine and Cypress, according to Garden Grove Police Detective Fred Aiken. Two of the cars have been recovered from Orange County wholesalers who purchased the cars from the unidentified man, Aiken said Saturday. The third car is still missing.

The suspect is described as being well-dressed, about 40 years old, weighing about 200 pounds and 6 feet to 6 feet, 2 inches tall. He has sandy or blond hair.
