The number of passengers on Long Beach city buses increased 6% last fiscal year, marking the 13th consecutive year of ridership growth.
Long Beach Transit reported this week that 24.3 million passengers boarded its buses during the year ending June 30.
Laurence Jackson, president and general manager of the bus system, said the increase was caused by several factors, including low fares and continuing downtown redevelopment, which resulted in more trips to work.
However, all bus fares were increased July 1. Regular fares were increased from 50 cents to 60 cents and monthly passes from $20 to $25.
