Park to Reopen: Liberty Park, which was the focus of a battle over development plans in 1983, will reopen Saturday after a $366,500 renovation.
New features of the six-acre park include a children’s playground, basketball and handball courts, new lights, picnic areas, and rebuilt paths and sidewalks. Poor soil conditions which have stymied landscaping efforts in the past have been overcome with the help of 473 truckloads of soil, Charlene Lent, a spokeswoman for the Community Services Department, said.
