Fair Skies, Warming Trend Predicted for the Weekend

Times Staff Writer

The National Weather Service is expecting another weekend of thoroughly typical and altogether acceptable summer weather for the Southland, with generally fair skies and high temperatures likely through Sunday.

The low clouds will burn off a bit earlier in the morning, thanks to an upper-level high-pressure area developing over New Mexico. So temperatures should be warmer: Highs will climb into the high 80s at the Civic Center and the low 90s in the valleys.

The high-pressure center will bring in some moisture from Mexico on Saturday and Sunday, with a chance of afternoon and evening thundershowers in the mountain and desert regions. But most of the Los Angeles Basin will probably escape with nothing more than a bit of mugginess.

3-to-5-Foot Surf

A generally fair forecast with highs in the upper 80s and lows in the upper 60s applies to the inland regions. Coastal areas will be clear by late morning with highs in the mid-70s and lows in the mid-60s. Generally speaking, the surf should run three to five feet at intervals of about 12 seconds.

San Diego will have fair skies with temperatures ranging from about 70 at night to highs in the mid-80s.

San Francisco is likely to see clouds and fog lingering near the coast with temperatures in the immediate Bay Area not going much above 70 after overnight lows in the high 50s.

Las Vegas will have temperatures peaking at about 100 and with lows of about 80 with fair skies. Tucson and Phoenix will be basically fair but may have afternoon and evening thundershowers. Highs will peak near 100 with lows in the 70s.
