Caltrans to Add Freeway Lane to Rid Burbank of Bottleneck

Share

The southbound Golden State Freeway in central Burbank will be widened next year to eliminate a morning rush-hour bottleneck, California Department of Transportation officials said Friday.

Construction of another lane from Burbank Boulevard to Magnolia Boulevard will begin in September and is expected to last about five months, Caltrans officials said. The freeway now narrows by one lane at the Burbank Boulevard exit, slowing traffic during the morning rush hour.

The project, estimated to cost $431,000, also will realign the eastbound Burbank Boulevard on-ramp to the southbound Golden State Freeway. Most construction will be at night, Caltrans officials said, and any work that must be done during the day will not take place during rush hours.
