The parents of third-grader Debbie DeRosario, who was struck and killed by a car at Beverly Boulevard and June Street near her 3rd Street Elementary School on Halloween, 1979, have won $1.3-million in damages from the driver. Jurors in the court of Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Robert B. Lopez ordered Dr. Gary Havens to pay $734,880 to the mother, Rachel, and $515,700 to the father, Daniel, after a three-week trial. Jurors assessed total damages of $2,084,300, but subtracted 40% on grounds that the little girl, who ran against a red light, contributed that much to her own death.
