Thirteen Dutch police officers and firemen got on a plane in Holland on Tuesday expecting to be flown to San Jose for the World Police and Fire Games being held there. Instead, they ended up in Los Angeles, the result of an error by trip organizers who apparently did not know that San Jose was 450 miles from Los Angeles.
Los Angeles Police Department spokesman Willie Wilson said Trailways Bus System has offered to drive the “Flying Dutchmen” up north free of charge. None of them had brought enough money to pay for the unexpected trip from Los Angeles to San Jose.
A second group of 22 Dutch police and firemen is scheduled to arrive at Los Angeles International Airport on Thursday, and police said Trailways will provide transportation for them as well.
