The Centre City Development Corp., the city’s redevelopment arm, will consider today a $26,000 city contribution toward the installation of an original sculpture at the Wells Fargo Bank Plaza on Broadway.

The sculpture, by New York artist Charles Ross, combines the elements of light, rock and water, using a prism to create colorful images with refracted light.

San Diego arts patron Danah Fayman and Pacific Centre Associates, a partnership that owns the Wells Fargo building, each donated $50,000 to commission the sculpture, and the law firm Rogers and Wells has agreed to contribute $25,000 to install it at the plaza, which is at Front Street.

The sculpture has been finished for six months, but the full cost of installation, including construction of a pool to prevent people from touching the prism, has been estimated at $77,363.

Unable to find another donor, Pacific Centre Associates, made up of the Koll Co. and LaSalle Partners, agreed to pay half of the additional cost if the city would pay the other half. CCDC Executive Vice President Gerald Trimble has recommended that the city share in those costs.

Kathy Kalland, a spokeswoman for CCDC, said the agency will seek donations from private companies after the sculpture is installed.
