Pulde Posts Record Time in the IHRA Summer Nationals
Dale Pulde continued his dominance of International Hot Rod Assn. racing by posting a record time Friday in the first qualifying session of the Summer Nationals at Edgewater Sports Park.
Pulde, of Granada Hills, ran the quarter mile in 5.614 seconds at 259 m.p.h. top the funny car field.
The driver of the Miller Warrior Buick Regal has won the last four IHRA events, also a record, and is well ahead of fellow drivers in the 1985 IHRA-Winston World Championship points battle.
The 5.614 run on a cool, sunny day, eclipsed the former mark of 6.628 seconds by Billy Meyer of Waco, Texas. Meyer’s run was made at Bristol, Tenn., in September 1984.
Pulde must now run within one percent of the time through the next two days of the even to establish a national record. He will have three more qualifying runs today before Sunday’s single-elimination finals.
