Two drug companies, Abbot Laboratories and Hoffman La Roche, are being blamed in a San Francisco lawsuit for permanent brain damage suffered by the grandson of the late oil magnate J. Paul Getty. The suit filed in San Francisco Superior Court accuses the two companies of failing to provide sufficient warnings of the depressant and addictive effects of the drugs Placidyl, Valium and Dalmane to Jean Paul Getty III, 29. Getty’s wife charged that her husband lapsed into a coma April 5, 1981, after taking the prescribed drugs for several days.
