The 3-year-old daughter of a woman who jumped from the Coronado Bridge with the child in her arms remained in critical condition at UC San Diego Medical Center, a hospital spokeswoman said. Bertha Gomez suffered multiple trauma from nearly drowning and had cuts and bruises on her face, the spokeswoman said. Angelina Gomez, 24, of San Diego, and her daughter were pulled from the water by a boater Sunday afternoon. The mother died during surgery at the hospital. Deputy Coroner Everett Mauger said Gomez was an Army veteran who was attending Southwestern College. She was separated from her husband, Eladio Gomez, but had spoken with him Sunday morning, according to Mauger.
