The La Jolla Improvement Area, an assessment district formed by the City of San Diego with the La Jolla Parking and Business Improvement Assn. in 1978 to improve the community’s downtown business area, will disband according to schedule next June.

The San Diego City Council voted Tuesday to disband the district, at the request of the improvement area board of directors, which earlier had taken a similar vote. The district raised about $80,000 annually, which was spent to improve public parking areas and establish the La Jolla Shuttle and other, smaller projects.
