Chula Vista

Residents of the Montgomery area south of Chula Vista will get the chance in November to decide whether they want to form a city, become part of Chula Vista or remain an unincorporated area of the county.

San Diego County supervisors on Wednesday voted 4-0, with Paul Eckert absent, to authorize a Nov. 5 election on the issue, known as the “Montgomery reorganization.”

Voters in the area will be asked in a binding vote whether they want to be annexed to Chula Vista, which would then provide all municipal services in the area. In an advisory vote, residents will be asked whether they want to incorporate into a city of their own.

If the answer to both questions is “no,” county supervisors said they will assume the residents want the community to remain an unincorporated area of the county.
