The Region : CHP Suspends 2 in Arrest-Fixing Probe
Two California Highway Patrol officers have been suspended and a civilian is being questioned while authorities investigate an anonymous tip that the three were involved in a scheme to fix drunk driving arrests. CHP spokesman Sgt. Mark Lunn identified the patrolmen as Louis Cordova, 30, and Ulises Tiffer, 34. No charges have been filed against them. Both are assigned to the Central Los Angeles office. Lunn said Gilbert Martinez, a civilian not employed by the CHP, has been charged with conspiracy, bribery and obstruction of justice in connection with the case. The spokesman would not say how Martinez was involved in the alleged fixing scheme. In addition to the CHP’s internal investigation, the Los Angeles County district attorney’s office has launched a criminal investigation into the matter.
