American Airlines amended its pilots' contracts.

Pilots and American officials would not give details about the wage hike, but they said the amendment maintains the two-tier wage structure for personnel hired since the original 1983 contract was approved. The agreement, approved by union bargaining unit leaders, will allow American to be cost competitive while increasing wages for pilots with less seniority, officials said.
