Two Aspen men have filed a $22-million suit against Hollywood film producer Jon Peters, claiming he pointed a handgun at them and pulled the trigger.

No shots were fired, although Peters allegedly pulled the trigger four times, according to the suit filed by Denver lawyer Walter Gerash on behalf of James Bates, 19, and Thomas Aley, 25.

The suit contends the 40-year-old Peters put a .45-caliber Colt revolver to Bates’ forehead, pulling the trigger twice, then aimed the gun at Aley’s chest, again pulling the trigger twice.

No explanation was given in the suit for the alleged incident, which the suit said occurred at the door of Peters’ vacation home July 30.

A spokesman for Peters said the producer was unavailable for comment on the suit. The Pitkin County Sheriff’s Department said the case is under investigation.

Gerash said that Bates and Aley went to Peters’ house to collect $110 for landscape work they did at his ranch. After they knocked, Peters came out of the front door with the gun.

Bates later received medical treatment for eye injuries sustained when Peters shoved the gun into his left eye, Gerash said.

Peters said nothing during the incident, Gerash said, and afterward asked the men to come inside for their checks. They declined but have received the money since then, he said.

“We want to prevent him from doing it again,” Gerash said of the large damage request. “If you ask for a small amount, it won’t deter a rich person.”

Peters has co-produced several films including “A Star Is Born,” and “Flashdance.”
