Los Angeles police are investigating the death of a man who may have drowned after falling into four inches of water in a Northridge wash, authorities said Wednesday.

Detective Wayne Newton said a white man in his mid-30s was found face down in the wash near Balboa Boulevard and Superior Street at 8 p.m. Tuesday.

Newton said the name of the man is being withheld until his family is notified.

Newton said he was not sure of the cause of death, but that there was no sign of a struggle. He said the man may have tripped, lost consciousness and drowned.
