Adecomposed body found in Agoura Aug. 4 has been identified as that of a 66-year-old man from the San Luis Obispo area, the Los Angeles County Coroner’s office said Thursday.

Russell Delios Chamberlin was last seen July 22 as he prepared to drive from his hometown of Arroyo Grande to nearby Santa Maria to get his 27-foot motor home repaired, the county Sheriff’s Department said.

His body was found almost two weeks later by a passing motorist who stopped to look for a piece of equipment that had fallen off his car. The remains had been dumped in a brushy area about 500 feet off Agoura Road, Deputy Bob Stoneman said.

An autopsy showed that Chamberlin died of multiple stab wounds to the chest, coroner’s investigator Deborah Peterson said. Investigators were able to identify the body through fingerprints, she said.

Chamberlin’s motor home was found in the Agoura area Aug. 6, Stoneman said. The vehicle was empty, but it appeared to have been inhabited for several days, he said.

There are no suspects, Stoneman said.
