The rare action by the Teamsters Union allows more than 20,000 striking car haulers and yard workers to go back to work Sunday, ahead of actual rank-and-file ratification of their new three-year contract. Detroit auto makers, who along with foreign car makers suffered from clogged inventory lines during the three-week strike, expressed pleasure with the news. Although union local leaders approved the new pact Friday, the membership votes probably will not be counted until mid-September.
