A protest by animal rights activists at the San Bernardino city animal shelter ended when three people were arrested and several others were escorted from the shelter by police officers. San Bernardino police Lt. Dale Roberts said the three protesters were arrested for investigation of trespassing after they clambered onto the shelter’s roof. Others who chained themselves on the ground floor of the building were taken from the property when the shelter closed at 6 p.m., he said. The protesters targeted the San Bernardino shelter because it is the largest supplier of animals to research facilities in the area, a spokeswoman for the group said. In their effort to change the city’s policy of selling animals to research facilities, the protesters now hope to meet with San Bernardino Mayor Evelyn Wilcox.
