Huntington Beach : Golden West College Finishes Improvements

Share

A major project to upgrade teaching laboratories is almost complete at Golden West College and most facilities are expected to be ready in time for the fall semester, which begins today.

“The governor blue-penciled everything out of the budget except for some equipment money, and we put that to good use,” said Gene Farrell, director of business services. He said the only project that will not be completed until the spring semester is a 40-station computer room, being installed at a cost of about $100,000.

For $63,000, new taping equipment has been installed in the foreign language lab for tutoring in French, Spanish, German, Italian, Russian and Chinese. A new cardiovascular facility for physical education students cost about $50,000.

Other projects included the conversion of a chemistry lab into a combination lab and classroom for $15,000 and a speech lab in which students can be taped as they practice public speaking and interpersonal communication techniques.
