Myron M. Kaplan, a director of House of Fabrics, has reduced his stake in the Sherman Oaks company to 8.2% by selling 61,800 shares of his stock between June 10 and Aug. 9, according to documents on file with the Securities and Exchange Commission.

The transactions, at prices ranging from $14.25 to $15.75, left Kaplan with 532,375 shares, including 329,500, or a 5.1% stake, held in partnership with James A. Nathan, another House of Fabrics director.

Before he began selling in June, Kaplan held a 9.4% stake; in February, the figure was 10.8%. Both figures include the shares held in partnership.

Kaplan, a New York investor, declined to comment. Barney Sofro, House of Fabrics’ vice chairman, said he is not aware of any changes at the company that prompted the sales.

“There’s no special meaning to it,” he said. “My perception of what Myron is doing is, it’s a form of diversification.”
