SANTA ANA — Joselito Cinco was arraigned for a second time Wednesday on charges that he killed two San Diego police officers in Balboa Park last year.
An Orange County Superior Court judge set Cinco’s trial date for Oct. 15. The trial was moved from San Diego last week at the request of Cinco’s attorney, John Cotsirilos, who said pretrial publicity made a change of venue necessary.
Cinco, 26, of Spring Valley, is charged with two counts of murder in the Sept. 14 slayings of Officers Timothy Ruopp, 31, of San Diego and Kimberly Tonahill, 24, of La Mesa, and with attempted murder in wounding Officer Gary Mitrovich, 26, who responded to the shootings.
If convicted of first-degree murder, Cinco could face the death penalty.
