40-Foot Fall Onto Orange Freeway Is Fatal to Yorba Linda Woman, 19
A 19-year-old Yorba Linda woman died Monday after she climbed over a guardrail on the Imperial Highway overpass, clung with one arm, then fell 40 feet onto the Orange Freeway, said a Brea Fire Department spokesman.
Witnesses saw Darra Stephanie Trevena climb over the guardrail of the overpass about 10:45 a.m., Fire Department Capt. Kevin Kelly said.
Trevena fell directly onto the freeway’s northbound lanes. Although traffic was moderate, she was not struck by any vehicles, Kelly said.
Paramedics found the woman unconscious, but breathing. She was taken by helicopter to UCI Medical Center, where she died from injuries about 1:30 p.m., a coroner’s spokesman said.
Authorities said that they did not know what prompted the incident.
