A Los Angeles police officer investigating a kidnap report in Panorama City Tuesday night was shot in the face by a man who was then shot by other officers and seriously wounded, police said.

The injured officer, Ricky Webb, 24, a three-year veteran of the force, was in good condition at Panorama Community Hospital where a bullet was “popped out” of his skull, a policeman at the scene said.

Webb had responded to a report of two males being held against their will in an apartment on the 8600 block of Columbus Avenue at 7:30 p.m. when a man walked out and started shooting, police said.

The man, identified as David L. Pamperim, 30, shot Webb between the eyes with a pistol, but the bullet did not penetrate the officer’s skull, investigators said.

The suspect was shot five times and was taken to Valley Medical Center in Van Nuys, where his condition was not known, police said.

Lt. Charles Higbie of the officer-involved shooting unit went to the scene to investigate the incident.
