Amy Alcott, the LPGA’s fourth-leading money winner this year, will be sidelined indefinitely after falling on an escalator, the LPGA said Tuesday.

Alcott suffered a hairline fracture of her right knee cap Sunday night when she fell on an escalator at Los Angeles International Airport. She was returning to her Santa Monica home after a playoff loss to Pat Bradley in the LPGA National Pro-Am at Denver.

Alcott also suffered two puncture wounds to the knee, causing severe swelling.

According to Dr. Frank Jobe of the Southwest Orthopedic Group in Inglewood, Alcott’s recovery is expected to take at least three to five weeks.

“I can only take it one day at a time right now,” Alcott said. “I’m using crutches to get around and for now I’m just trying to get some rest so I can return as quickly as possible.”

Alcott is enjoying her finest year on the LPGA Tour, winning four tournaments and $276,000 this season.
