Turk Held in Scheme to Burn Greek Forests
A 19-year-old Turk who was carrying 14 incendiary devices when arrested on the Greek border has admitted being involved in a scheme to start forest fires, the Greek national news agency ANA said Wednesday.
Two other Turks are being questioned by Athens police, the report added.
Greece has suffered a series of fires this month, killing seven people and ruining hundreds of thousands of acres of forest land. Prime Minister Andreas Papandreou has blamed the fires on arsonists who he says may be intent on destabilizing Greece.
