Boston College, playing for the first time in four years without 1985 Heisman Trophy winner Doug Flutie on its squad, will face defending national champion Brigham Young in the third Kickoff game tonight in the Meadowlands at East Rutherford, N.J.

The game will be televised on a one-hour tape-delayed basis by Channel 9 at 6 p.m. PDT. Cable superstation WGN and San Diego’s Channel 51 will televise the game live at 5. Radio station KNX (1070) is also providing live coverage.

It is the fourth straight year that Boston College has played the defending national champion.

“We tied Clemson (17-17 in 1982), we beat Penn State (27-17 in 1983) and we beat Miami last year (47-45 in the Doug Flutie ‘Hail Mary’ miracle),” Boston College Coach Jack Bicknell said.

Brigham Young brings a 24-game winning streak into the game.

Brigham Young Coach Lavell Edwards said that the 1985 BYU team has as much potential as the 1984 champion.
