The state Coastal Commission has approved an application for a $60-million Hyatt Regency hotel in Santa Monica. The commission voted 11 to 0 to accept plans for the hotel at 1700 Ocean Ave.

The five-story building will include 349 rooms, two restaurants, a ballroom, meeting facilities, entertainment lounges and an exercise room. Underground parking for 510 cars will be provided.

Mayor Christine E. Reed spoke in support of the hotel plan, saying the facility would produce an estimated $747,000 a year in sales and bed tax revenues for the city. Ground-breaking is expected to take place in about two months.
