A 32-year-old man was killed Wednesday when he apparently fell from a moving Amtrak passenger train while hitching a ride between cars, a coroner spokesman said.
Identification on the body, which was found by a passer-by about 7:15 a.m., identified the man as Miguel Gomez-Ruiz. The body was lying near the tracks about 20 feet south of Balboa Avenue.
The spokesman said they theorize that Gomez-Ruiz was an illegal alien who had jumped onto the train shortly before it pulled out from the downtown station and was jolted from his perch between cars.
