Razor wire with its keen cutting edges and “jack-in-the-box” ability to spring at invaders will be prohibited on rooftops and parapets of existing and future buildings in the city because of its potential hazard to firefighters under a regulation adopted by the Los Angeles Fire Commission. Called concertina or serpentine wire because of its circular appearance, “the stuff is damned effective for businessmen in keeping burglars out, but it’s a real menace for our guys climbing up on buildings,” Battalion Chief Jim Young said.
