In the wake of the athletic scandal at Southern Methodist University, officials of the United Methodist Church are considering taking an increased role in overseeing ethics at its 128 colleges.

The group will consider whether “questions of institutional integrity” should be included in its review standards when the church’s University Senate meets in January, said John White, president of Nebraska Wesleyan University and secretary of the review body.
